When I did my 500 mile change I found no crush washer, though I too was expecting there to be one. Go figure. I think that was the 1st oil change so none from the factory it looks like - for me anyway.
And yes, that dang filter was on there TIIIIIIGHT. I had to get a filter wrench to get it off.
