Not according to the schematic - there is actually a change-over relay on the 05+ bikes (separate relays on the pre 05's) and the power going through that relay goes to either the starter or the lights, can't do both.

I don't have the schematic to hand so can't verify right now, but you may be seeing the parking lights - I don't recall from memory whether they are also switched during the starter operation, but categorically the main lights/starter share the same relay & powers one or the other, cannot be both simultaneously.

That is why you cannot even pull the fuse to inhibit the lights on an '05+ for maintenance - the same fuse supplies the circuit for lights & starter power.

Also note my earlier comment, the manual light switch cannot be used on these bikes.
