Cruelty To Crabs?

On the news today it seems that fishermen are catching crab, de clawing (just ripping them off) and returning them to the sea, this has always been considered ok as the claws grow back. Today however its been put forward that this practice causes the crab to be stressed?, and that they cannot feed well and will possibly die. I dont know what is the right and wrong of the argument, sounds cruel to me, but 1. how do you know a crab is stressed, 2. why would you throw away a perfectly good crab and just keep the claws, crabmeat is lovely, 3. how do you get a job studying stress in crabs? 4. where do you draw the line with the cruelty thing, people swat flies stand on ants boil lobster and shrimp alive etc do I have to stop riding as the bugs that hit my visor may be badly hurt and die in pain by the roadside. I do not expect an answer on this, but as attempt to live by my Buddist beliefs I hate the idea of suffering but where do you draw the line? just caught my interest thats all.
