I had a great time at the track this past week on my S4. It was my 1st time but it's sure not to be my last.
I'd agree that a faring is unnecessary at a track day I don't even have the pixie hat on mine and I was fine tucked in showing 120. I did have to get creative with where I put my numbers though. It's worth something on the top end or at the drag strip but that's not the point at a track day.
Damage control might be an issue but a spare cover and sliders will keep you going and you don't have to worry about so much paint and plastic.
The handling and suspension were great, I now have loads more confidence in what my bike can do having spent the time at the track, but those will be the same on an S4 or a TT.
I'd say don't go spoiling your self with wind protection and stand out from the crowd... I mean.. "go your own way."
