I agree - I just saw these new specs yesterday on the UK Triumph site (
www.triumph.co.uk/uk)... It seems that a lot of the things that set the Thruxton apart from the Bonnevilles are being lost. The Thruxton was already just a Bonneville with different wheels and a few different parts bolted on, but now they are more similar than ever before (maybe to cut costs?). All the engines are now the same. As ugly as the old plastic reservoir was, at least you could replace the cap or replace the whole thing with a Rizoma if you wanted to. Now that option is gone. It looks like a Bonneville reservoir. I wonder if they put 1" bars on these new Thruxtons so that they could use all the same controls as the Bonnevilles, or are they still 7/8"? I don't like the new bars, but I am a fan of clip-on bars anyways. They could have at least made the new bars black. The tubes that hold the headlight brackets are longer now, since there are no clip on bars under the top clamp. That means they will need to be cut down if you want to put clip-on bars under the top clamp. I think this whole new handlebar setup looks a lot less sporty than last year. Also, they are not currently listing any higher horsepower specification for the 2008 fuel injected version.
