the r actually means export..ie US not UK model...shorter mufflers, higher bars and smaller tank option and a few other things..some years air cleaners, jetting etc, UK models had painted guards..enough to have a seperate parts catalogue...majority of bikes were "r"..in australia we got both, and a good lot of TR6P for police (saint) which kept the secondhand market going for years
