Steven, a friend of mine (a Victory rider) insists on wearing a soup bowl helmet. Last Saturday, he was going for an early morning ride. He saw a large dog on the shoulder of the road, but the dog moved away from the pavement, then at the last moment darted directly in his path. My buddy went over the handlebars. I should mention he was wearing a light (non-armored) jacket. The result was a fractured shoulder blade, collar bone, five broken ribs and a punctured lung. He also suffered some nasty road rash on the right side of his face.

ATGATT may seem trite and boring, but if he had been wearing the proper gear, manyt of his injuries would have been avoided.

I wear modular helmets. You can flip up the whole front at lower speeds, you can ride with the shield open at any speed and you have the protection of a full-face helmet. I would recommend a modular (or flip up) to anyone...although my buddy says he's sticking with his soup bowl.
