The coils should BOTH heat a little equally when running. If static, then the coil which has it's points closed will be the only one to heat.
There are two problems, the left has a spark problem, the right has a heating problem. Overheating is lean mixture, advanced or very retarded spark, or an air leak on the inlet side. Check the balance tube on the inlet adaptors, is it in place and tight?
