to do or not to do...

I take my bike to a mechanic who works from home and is very highly regarded by many motorbike riders. He has also had a lot of experience with the new Triumph twins. I recently got him to remove the AI from my bike and give it a good tune and change the jets etc. He did a great job.
I also asked him if he'd recommend I change the air filter system, as I had heard it was too restrictive. He seemed of the opinion that doing so would only have marginal effect on the performance and not worth the expenditure.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has actually replaced theirs (and what with) and what difference it made.
