Been wanting to get up to the dealership (Triumph. Ducati, KTM) for awhile now to see the new bikes, and inquire as to what Triumph is or is not doing about the peeling paint inside the tank (filler neck area), since the warranty is up next month. A buddy and I rode the 70 miles together, me on the Bonnie and he on his Hyabusa (an unlikely duo, but we've been friends since 3rd grade). Oh… and we wore shorts (98 degrees). Anyway…
• Service mgr. not there. Nobody seemed to recall any complaints about the peeling paint issue. Told me to call back tomorrow. Will I have to ride them hard for a new tank? Should I push for that?
Did three demo rides while there. Mind you the Bonnie is really the only bike I've rode in the last 20 years. I rode the new Tiger, Speed Triple and the Ducati Sport Classic GT 1000.
• Tiger was first, and really felt odd to me. I've been lusting after this bike for awhile now, but couldn't really relate. The shift lever seemed to be set in real tight to the bike. :???: I know it's a tall bike, and I could flat foot it in the parking lot (6-0"), but on the street it seemed like I was on my toes. I think I need to give it another try though, because I rode it first and anything different would have probably felt odd to me. Loved the engine.
• Ducati was next and it felt pretty good. A little rattley sounding maybe. Traded halfway through the ride for the Speed Triple and forgot all about the Ducati…
• Speed Triple was tremendously fun (and I was riding semi-cautiously). Great motor, great brakes, etc., etc. I seemed to slide a little forward in the seat, but other than that what a cool bike.
What are the experiences of others with these bikes.
