Settled for a late start...knowing there are only 250 miles to make today....that and scoping out the cheapest motel to spend the next 3 days in.
Another near 100 degree day but at least some clouds and the threat of rain tho the worst of that would likely be only temorary.
Last year in Greece, and this trip were the first times I've spent extended time in the saddle in real hot weather. It takes a couple days to accomplish, but now the term 'saddle sore' has real meaning...the cure being soothing lotion morning and evening. I'm not a lotion kind of guy, but it will make a believer out of you to barely be able to put your weight down on the seat of you bike. I'm sure that's all you want to know.
Rolled past this nice sign and stopped to take a pic....only to find the sign didn't guarantee success of the business.....guess there were already too many Harley shops in the area...or not enuff bikers.
I'd guess the sign is for sale if you're interested....it's in Kansas...just south of Pittsburgh.
Should have taken more of this kind of pic, but here's the first one as it's near the end of the first leg.
Wasted as much time as possible and rolled into Springfield about 5 w/ plenty of time rest up before picking up Paula at 10:30,,,er...11:00....no wait....11:45....late flights because of the thunderstorms around the midwest.
Tues-Thurs 6/26-28
Not a biker report here....just doing things w/ Grandma like riding around visiting old friends and relatives, eating at the Sr. Citizens center, Easy's Cajun restaurant (this one's good), the Rickshaw (worst Chinese food on the planet), and a couple other places worth neither plugging nor panning.
We did go by the historic old Gillioz (Gill-oyz) Theater on Rt. 66 through Springfield. The director was coming in as we were looking in so we got free mini-tour....it's not as glitzy as the old Fox Theaters, but it's in fine shape and looks real good inside.
Good to stay in touch....and good to head for Branson on Thursday night to see the Shepherd of the Hills outdoor play, and go ride the multilevel go-karts after visiting Uncle Paul.
Excerpt from the play.
And a shot of carting....I got a slow one and didn't have the fun I did a couple years ago, but it was still good kicks.
Up early on Friday AM, back to Springfield to say good bye to Gram and took off for St. Louis suburb Chesterfield to see Paula's sister and family. After a detour to stop by her cousin's house...who wasn't home, we hit C'field around 7...late enough to miss rush hour, early enough for still busy freeways.
It's now Sunday, July 1...did the family thing yesterday all day, in a little while the rest of the family have obligations, so we're heading, at their recommendation, out to Defiance, MO...only a few miles away, to a couple bars that reportedly have tons of bikes parked at them all the time. Should prove an interesting afternoon. This evening will be a play....and we're heading out first thing in the morning for S. Iowa and....duh...more family stuff.
Seeing as it may be difficult to keep you coming back with all this family stuff and little opportunity for stunning pictures....stay tuned for my philosphical discussion....'The Naked Continuum'.
Thanks for visiting...even a rotten tomato means someone is listening.
