My '98 Triumph Tigers throttle cable has snapped.

So, I go to the local Triumph shop and ask for one.
I need my VIN number. I don't have that....so I go home and get it. Next day i go back with the VIN.

Now I need the VIN (got it) and the engine number!
ok, I go home.
Next morning I check the engine for the number. I see the rectangle where the number is suppossed to be..but it is BLANK. I got no engine number?!?

I know the '98 was the last year of the carb..and it was a different carb brand than all before it.

I need the part number if anyone can help me.
plz?
This confusion has already cost me yet another overnight rally I was planning on making it to this weekend.
