As you can see, Bradford, everyone has different taste in helmets. As long as you go with a brand name, DOT approved helmet you're on the right track. Aside from that just try on several different styles and brands until you find one that fits you well. Remember, size can be adjusted somewhat by changes to the padding, so don't settle unless everything is just right.
I didn't think about all this when I bought my helmet. I just finished signing the paperwork on my bike and the helmet was an afterthought. I bought the first helmet I tried on (an HJC CS-5) and I've hated it ever since. But being the frugal guy I am I'm forcing myself to live with it for a while.
