Seems like when the bikes are new, they let off more heat and it's very noticeable. After a few thousand miles, things will cool down a bit. How many miles do you have born2run74?
I had my heat kit fitted and it does re-direct the excess heat. I rode last night 200 miles with standard blue jeans and didn't feel the heat creeping from either side.
