This is funny... and I'm not making this up. As I was reading your post while eating my lunch, the mailroom guy delivered my new helmet!
I'm afraid I can't help you much with the half helmet, as I too am a full face guy. I had been shopping to replace my Arai Quantum for the past couple of months and did consider a half helmet for awhile. But I stumbled on some pretty gruesome photos of guys in accidents (

What I can share from my experience is you really need to try these on. Most helmets meet DOT or better standards these days, so fit and features should drive your decision. The Suomy Vandal came out tops for me. Great fit, light weight, cool graphics, and good ventilation.
