& that's exactly why I use it - larger filter means more filtration surface therefor better filtration & better flow.
The additional 3/4" creating vulnerability is just ridiculous - even the sump nut is lower than the base of the filter, let alone the headers which are a good 2" lower still!
If you're in the position of denting your filter you have much greater problems to worry about! :-D
