If you didn't have CV carbs, it would be obvious. With VV carbs (like FCRs) you've got direct control of the slide. The slide is the throttle in a VV rather than the butterfly in a CV.

Anyhow, the VV carbs let you pop the throttle wide open at low rpms which pretty much makes a mess of the mixture.

At least that's what I think he's talking about, but I'm not sure... it might explain why some of his stuff doesn't make sense.
