I have a pair of Triumph Explorer gloves for 3 season riding, This is the third year I've been using them and they're still warm and waterproof. I recomend them.
I wear Lee Parks Elk hide gloves in the summer and agree they're pretty nice, soft and supple but supposedly tougher than cowhide.
