The old logo was associated with a different "Triumph". That is, the old company was located in Meriden, UK and went out of business in the early eighties. The new Triumph was started by John Bloor in the mid nineties in Hinckley, UK (thus the terms: "Meriden Triumph" and "Hinckley Triumph"). The old company built overhead valve/pushrod engines with no counterbalancing and all British components. The Hinckley's started off as modern triples and fours, but eventually branched into more traditional designs like the Bonnevilles. The newer bikes are made in England (at least for now) and source components from several countries (Japanese carbs, brakes, and suspension...German tires, etc). I'm guessing that Mr. Bloors original licensing agreement did not include the original logo and he changed it a bit to avoid going to court.
