If you can stick your index finger in the filler and the oil gets to your first joint or a little higher (about 2.5" of airspace over the oil), you are doing fine. The bike will run fine with a quart in the system, on a cool day and if you don't flog it. The rest of the oil keeps things cool and reduces the oil change interval.
