I was in the same boat as you, wanted a Daytona when I bought the RS back in 01, but I couldn't afford the more expensive tona at the time. Last fall I finally decided to spend the money an finally picked up an 06 955. I still have the sprint RS and love it. I have not had time to make the tona ergo friendly, but in stock form it is better than most sport bikes. Being almost 45 and having back and knee problems does pose a problem with the daytona and I do have plans drawn for adjustable plates for the rearsets, but haven't had time to cut them or play with the peg height. I figure I can get an inch out of the adjustable plates. You could put on bar risers and it may bring the clip ons up to about the RS bar height, but the RS is considerably lower than the ST. The stock tona seat is absolutely horrible, at least for me and I am ordering a sargent set soon in hopes it helps a bit. What I can tell you from experience and soley my opinion is the daytona is an awesome bike, fun, fast, an handles pretty well, but from my old body with back and joint problems it is not a long distance bike "IN STOCK FORM". I do believe with a few mods it can be transformed into a long distance rider because I used my RS on quite a few certified IBA rides as well as thousands of miles near 1K days. Comparing the two bikes really isn't fair, two different animals, but if you have your hear set on one, buy it or you'll never know what you missed. I have every intention of using my tona for long distance rides after I mod what I know needs to be done for me. Getting on the RS now feels like climbing onto a BMW tourer compared to the tona and I remember when I thought the RS was pretty bad after a few long days on the road. When I get around to the seat and rearsets, I'll try and let you know how it turns out. Good luck in your decision and most of all have a blast and ride safe.
