Are your filters paper or a cloth fiber?
K&N makes a spray cleaner and aerosol spray-on oil for their pod filters. I clean mine when I get a gray-blackish tint in the folds of the filter, then a light spray coat of oil until I get an off-pink color.
Your neighborhood auto parts store may have the K&N cleaning-oiling kit in stock. However, I would not use oil on a paper-type filter.
