They didn't quite ride the whole way, they needed trucks to get them across the Zilov gap. Not surprising since the only guys who ever did manage to ride the gap did it on Suzuki dr350's. They made a really noble effort in getting those big beemers as far as they did though, hats off to them for that. I was also impressed by Charlie's efforts in the race to Dakar last year, finishing a stage with two broken wrists.
Forgive me for mentioning this again, but to give credit where it's due, the real inspiration for the Long Way Round was the boys who did it first in
Mondo Enduro They failed to cross the Zilov gap that time and had to put their bikes on the trans Siberian railway.
On a later trip they did manage across the gap by bike on the
Terra Circa trip, probably for the first and last time because the Russians have since built a road there.
