I followed the factory recommends, it was painful, especially being in 6th gear and only able to go 65MPH. I'm a little over 12,000 miles now and my scoot doesnt burn any oil whatsoever.

Just persevere and take care of the 500 mile break in, over rev is likely unavoidable on occasion and shouldnt be a big deal; be sure not to lug the engine too much or get hung up in any specific gear and/or engine speed too much. Allow the engine to warm up properly and enjoy yourself.

After the break in period is over..ride 'er like you stole her..

Yeah, dont complain about the clucky tranny, we already know about it...it'll smooth out in time. Practice preloading when shifting, it helps a lot...
