Just use a long Phillips screw driver to give you some leverage. Hook the spring over the screw driver and stretch out the spring then slip the hook down the shaft and onto the stand. Very easy.

Also, many people use the stock nuts and bolts where appropriate. Just depends if the stockers are long enough to go through the plates and engage the nuts fully.
