The only reason for a six speed that I can see is if I were to install some road race cams, with lots of overlap and long duration, making for a narrow power band (and the high compression pistons to match). Otherwise, with a large displacement twin, you have enough torque to pull the jump in gears. The gears would have to be narrowed to squeeze in another set, and I don't know if that would necessarily affect durability.
