Good bit of lateral thinking - but you still have the bar clamp problem -you might find the 7/8" bit isn't long enough to accomodate the Triumph bits. HD bars are 1" - so if you want a change you can probably find the right shape amongst the thousands of different bar types available for HDs. (Just don't tell anyone!)
I'd be a bit worried about trusting push-bike bars - though 'proper' mountain bike bars are probably OK.
