Listen Dudes, I used to work for AA Passenger services in the early 90s.... I was trained up to operate a fluffier version of the ElAl (Mossad) profiling system. IT WORKS! I personally flushed out a drug smuggler using nothing more than skilled questioning and reading body language. Trouble is that to do it properly means that you must have about a three hour check in, prior to ETD, and sometimes passengers ARE going to be profiled, and denied boarding.
I used to get told at least twice a shift that "I will have your job a=*hole, and "I will write to Bob Crandall"
I used to smile, and give them my card, and say "Be sure to spell my name right..... have a nice day"
Guranteed to give some mouthy premium pax apoplexy.
Seriously - you were lucky that they were slack. If not, then you would have lost it!
Cheers
PF
