Brooksie - I agree with you in lots of areas. I have a BMW dealer that is 60-70 miles from my house. There is a boutique dealer 10 minutes from my house. I ride to the dealer 60-70 miles away. They do excellent service work, both mechanics ride BMWs, the owner rides BMWs. They love the bikes and they know them inside out. I don't mind giving them the business when it comes to mechanical work I just don't want to deal with. They are fair, and it is easy to say 'that is good value for what I'm paying'. I often tip the mechanic when he's through.
The shops I have problems with are the ones that want $400.00 for what adds up to an oil and filter change, and an inspection of clutch cable free play, check valve clearance, do a headlight alignment, check my brake pads .... you know the drill .... $400 for an hour's worth of work they're paying the mechanic $20 to do. Gross profit: $380.00.
Those guys don't get my money. I'd rather do it myself.
Bob
