I'm sorry I cannot help with relevant knowledge about the Speed Triple Challenge shock, but I have a thought that you may wish to explore? I thought that one of the "standard" performance changes for the race bikes was to jack-up the rear of the bike, altering the overall steering geometry? This shock may be to match that altered geometry? (i.e. perhaps too radical for road usage?).
Fyi, I have a WP fully adjustable shock on my Sprint, and I have found it excellent.
