The valve seat and unleaded gas question first came up when leaded gas started being replaced by unleaded. I don't know of any valve guide issue. The seats are ok with unleaded. It was recommended that with newly cut seats that you run some lead additive for a few tankfuls of gas just to get a coating of lead deposited on the seats.

There are a couple of very informative mailing lists for old British bikes. One is the Brit-Iron list, subscribed to by owners of all marques of British bikes, parts vendors, mechanics, and some very knowledgable enthusiasts.

Since I have 2 Nortons I also subscribe to the NOC list (Norton Owners Club) and the INOA list (International Norton Owners Association).
