Hi folks, I just did an oil & oil filter change on my '99 Thunderbird. I purchased the oil filter from my 'local' motorcycle emporium for Aus$10. The filter in question is a Yamaha item. Part No: 36Y-13441-00, & is a straight replacement for the Triumph item, but is not supplied with the 'o' rings. I re-used the old 'o' rings, & ran the bike for a while to see if this resulted in any oil leaks. I'm pleased to say that there were none . The shop also had Honda filters that would fit but these were double the price of the Yamaha item, although they were supplied with two 'o'rings. I can't be certain if the 'o' rings on the Honda filter were the correct sizes, but they looked close enough to consider a Honda filter next time.
regards
Ian
Ps. when checking the oil level on that silly little sight glass (a dipstick would be so much more sensible IMHO), I was suprised to see the oil level *rise* with a running motor, I had imagined it would drop with the motor running (idling), & then rise once the motor was switched off. ??
