I painted my headlight bucket with Dupli-Color Low Gloss Black DE 1634, and the headlight bezel with Dupli-Color Aluminum DE 1615. To prepare the surface, I used a power sander with 100 grit paper to scratch up the bucket and bezel. That sounds coarse, but even with the power sander, it took a lot of time to rough up the surface. The chrome is super tough and was still smooth to the touch when I got done, but you could see the scratches, at least. The only place where I even wore through to the copper plated layer was at the sharper front edge of the bezel. I wiped the pieces down with paint thinner before painting. A day later, the paint withstood my 'finger nail gouge' test, which is as far as I wanted to go with it. Months later and after several encrustings with bugs and several washes, the paint is still fine.
