Dave, pariffin is the british term for what we call kerosene. Personally, I use a product from a local dealer called Sludge Away, distributed by Moose products. The kit comes with a little box, with brushes inside, that goes around the chain, and you fill it with this pink liquid. All you do is rotate the rear tire and it scrubs the chain, then rinse off with water. Works great.
