You are talking about the horizontal allen bolt, which is right next to the oil filter housing? As opposed to the larger vertically mounted allen bolt which is a little further away and which is the sump drain plug?

I have the Triumph Service Manual and it looks like it shows up in an oil circuit diagram with a torque rating of 36NM, but no explanation of what it does. Typical!

Certainly, when it comes to oil changes, the service manual only requires you to use the one sump drain plug as described above.
