To keep the black engine on my S3 clean (which is difficult as it has too many hoses and lines and fins and castings) I use a mop bucket of very hot water (so hot I have to wear yellow rubber gloves) and a few good squirts of that Mr. Clean auto wash. I bought the gun/filter thing from Mr.Clean but I find that the soap is what actually dries to no water spots, not the replaceable hard water filter in the gun. I just use a sponge (pack of 6 is like $3 at Cda Tire) and the hot soapy water and scrub. Make sure that the engine is cool though, else you'll bake the soap onto the black engine--which then requires lots of elbow grease.
