With some research I found that both tubes vent into the atmosphere. So I've left the purge valve connected to the loom for the time being purging air when every it feels a need.

In replacing the tubing from the throttle bodies to the idle stepper motor I realized that the OE corrugated tubing bends better than the fuel hose I replaced it with. All the OE tubing was fine, it was the connection between the tubing and the throttle bodies that broke. Those fittings are used through out the Evap system and cracked at various junctions. I don't know at this point of those fittings are available over the counter.
