what ever you do ,please let us know how it turns out. I went through the same dilema. I ended up using the magneto. I sent it to Joe Hunts magneto and they repaired it for under two hundred dollars. They said it was in the worst condition they have ever seen! I'v had it on my 59 for two riding seasons and it starts the bike easily and runs great. I'm glad I went that route because the generator needs rebuilt too. It does not generate. In time, I may have the generator looked into, but my point is, It'll run good with just a mag.
Also,just my paranoia, but having modern electrics on a bike that vibrates might not be a good idea.
