Take a real close look at your plug wire and the low voltage connections to the ignition coil.

If the connectors are damaged or corroded they'll damage and corrode the connections on the new coil.

If you crimped the high voltage connector to the stock plug wire, check that crimp carefully. Arcing there may not be audible or visible but will cause oxidation and a bad connection.
