I think it's not rude but if anything a considerate thing to do ! Why? because where i work there is a very bad lack of parking and bikers often park between cars ! And i mean to the point where they block the cars in. Twice this week i've seen this to the point where the cars could not get out, and man does that pi$$ me off ! I saw one guy going back and fourth maybe 20 times trying to pull out. I left so i don't know if he ever made it, but he had so little space i can't see how he could have. then another guy was just sitting in his car with the door open and one leg out just looking all around for the biker to come out so he could leave. I walked by with helmet in hand and he looked so relieved to see me till i told him that wasn't my bike. i felt bad for the guy. Personnaly if it were me i'd have moved the bike into a red zone and left ! Just because i'm a rider myself doesn't mean i don't hate people who do such stupid things.

So parking on the sidewalk, assuming you aren't blocking anything, is IMO a considerate thing to do considering the options that some morons take.
