Another one? YEP!
Start with a frame that I had loosely assembled to a "mostly there" engine with unstamped cases and mis-matched wheels. The engine came out for a client's project (see "68 Bonnie Restoration" thread in this section). My frame went to powdercoat at the same as the client's "donor bike" frame. When it got back, I set it on my upper shelf, out of the way.
Next, took the TR6 engine with Bonnie head from the same client's "donor bike" and set it on the far end of the workbench, covered with an old shirt. The engine ran great when I test-rode the bike before buying it as a donor for the client's project. Worst thing was, the numbers didn't match because it was a TR6 and the frame was a T120R. No matter, for me; the head is a Bonnie head and I'm not particular about matching numbers.
Also, from the same bike, take the non-spec wheel assemblies and set to one side. They are in decent shape but the client wanted Dunlop rims and as close to OEM spec on everything, these are Jones rims, the spokes and nipples have a bit of surface rust, brakes are a bit worn, tires are not even close to original spec, etc.
In the mad scramble to assemble the best possible set of original forks for the client, I was left with some fairly decent, if not a bit tatty, stanchions, bushings, dust cups and other parts. I put all those parts, along with the freshly powdercoated bottom legs and a few new bits (gaiters & seals) in a cardboard box on the shelf with the frame.
Then, I made a trade for some chopper parts to a guy on one of the forums who was converting an old Bonnie into a mild custom. I got a nice seat, oil tank, sidecover, rear fender, battery tray, and a pair of mismatched mufflers (almost identical, but not quite).
Add in a non-spec, but nice, 4 gallon tank acquired in a truckload parts purchase, exhaust pipes and tail light bought at a swap meet, brand new carbs bought from a vendor at the same swap meet, and a bunch of other bits like shocks, partiual wiring harness, ignition unit, coils, nuts & bolts taken from my parts shelves, and you've got my starting point for this build.
It might be a while before I have spare time to start the assembly, but I hope to be on it by this fall.
