The fiberglass packing gives the mufflers a mellow sound. Once the packing is gone with nothing but an open chamber they will probably sound loud, harsh and tinny. That was my experience in doing that to some Dunstall replica mufflers on my 75 Norton. Basically I ruined the mufflers.
