The '01 doesn't have the small round cover. It sucks. There's no way to turn the engine over with a socket. I get the rear tire off the ground, put the bike in 6th gear, and turn the rear tire. I'm not going to pull the entire primary side cover to adjust the valves.
I've never worked on the '02 and later 955. Sorry I can't help you with first hand info on those PaloAlto.
