As many of you know, I ordered a wolf underseat for my 955i daytona practically the day I bought it. I've posted a couple of weeks ago about the poor fit. Well, Peter changed pipe suppliers and sent me a set of the new ones. I am not the kind of guy who refuses to reverse his position so here I am....doing exactly that.
The new pipes fit...well....PERFECTLY. I mean the bends are spot on, the canisters now fit beautifully AND there are clamps to seal them to the Y pipe. Seriously a beautiful exhaust. I did have one difficulty in that the lower pipe, where it fits over the stock header...was loose. No problem, I thought..the clamp will pull it tight. But it didn't. I modified the clamp so that it could squeeze tighter but it then stripped the bolt of the clamp. Being a fabrication kind of guy, I used a grade 8 bolt and nut..drilled out the nut on the stock clamp and cranked that baby down TIGHT. No leak now. Oh, I also had to cut a relief in the lower pipe so that it could be tightened down.
In this pic you can see just above the bolt head that the relief slot as delivered is squeezed to the point of touching and at the bottom of the joint there is still a gap.
I widened both of the slots with a cut off wheel, then made two more (like the stock pipe) and now she fits wonderfully. Here is a pic of the widened slot.
Here is a pic of the grade 8 bolt fix.
I consider the lower joint to be a minor thing, and am very happy with the new bends and fit. I am working on getting to a dyno with the stock system so I can run them both back to back (new bends fit so well I can just remove the wolf as a whole, slide on stock and replace...in minutes. I'll post a full review after that, including dyno charts etc. All in all, MUCH happier with the wolf system now. Thanks Peter.
