Yes... they are concave so a passenger's leg will fit and the bags won't interfere. Ample in size? Not as big as some of the largest but I have taken 4 day trips and was able to get all of my gear in them... you have to pack well :-D . They won't swallow a full face helmet but they will a beaner...
