That's tough luck G - I hope the old fart makes good his carelessness, the very least he can do is replace the bonnie.
I know how it feels to have to spend months on crutches (a building site accident rather than a bike prang - and my own fault at that) and, believe you me, the novelty soon wears off. Think positive and stick with the physio and you'll be as right as rain and hopping onto a spanking new bonnie before you know it!
Meanwhile, with a mashed leg, self-improvement might be your only option.
