My america has a tach, and the rev limiter seems to kick in around 7500, like it's supposed to. I tested it just once for a few seconds, just to see what it was like.
From a dead start I accelerated rapidly (but no smoke show), hit the rev limiter in 1st gear, and also 2nd gear, and at that point I just shifted into 3rd gingerly. I'm pretty sure by the time I hit the rev limiter in 2nd I was at about 70mph. I'm satisfied that if I pulled out on a road and suddenly a tractor trailer was on my tail my "wimpy 790" would be able to get me out of trouble.
