Might be worth a try to clean the switch. My '01 had a similar problem last year. After leaving it uncovered in a rain storm, the engine mananagment light stayed lit after I shut the bike off and removed the key. Every thing ran fine and it would start right up, but seemed the switch decided to go south. I cleaned the switch with a couple of healthy blasts of contact cleaner, then applied a liberal dose of WD-40. Problem solved, I've ridden through down pours, sprayed the switch while washing and never a problem since. Good luck.
