I have an electrical problem with my 99 sprint ST. the bike keeps on breaking down on me. The problems happen under all sorts of conditions, rain, hail or shine. Symptoms being;
When I turn the ignition on sometimes the Management system and fuel lights don’t come on. Also when this happens the fuel pump doesn’t engage, therefore the bike won’t start. I can flick the switch up to 20 times before I get all systems go. When it does fire it will idle fine for a few minutes and then stop or it will continue to run. When I take it out for a ride I can go for several weeks without any problems or it will breakdown within a kilometer or so. When this happens it will continue to stop within a few K’s each time. The other week I rode for 30kms before it broke down, it stopped at least 10 times on the way home. I have had the bike to my Triumph dealer (140kms away)on many occasions, without success in locating the problem. They have gone through the wiring harness, checked for broken wires, connections, relays and sensors etc, fuel pump but can’t find any faults. On the last occasion that I had the bike at the dealers they put on 500kms without it faulting once. I put on another 400kms without any problems. Then one morning out of the blue it started again. They now suggest that I replace the wiring harness in an effort to fix the problem, but say it’s not 100% chance of fixing it.

Is there anyone out there who has experienced similar problems? Any suggestions in getting to the bottom of the gremlins would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Wayne
