I dont know if they are the same, but the rumor is that 2005 and up t-100 has a factory upgraded rev limiter that allows 8000 rpm. maybe he could get one of those.
I ran mine to 8000 in 2nd gear before shifting and no rev limiter cut in, so he may want to try that
